Saint James Hospital
The Saint James Hospital started operating in 1996 as the Capua Palace Hospital in Sliema, Malta. St James Hospital is a 70 bed medical/surgical hospital comprising a 24hr Emergency and Ambulance service, Radiology Department (PET/CT, CT, MRI, Mammogram, Ultrasound and Digital X-Rays), Out-patient Clinics, Dental Clinic, Pharmacy, Operating Theatres x 5 (including a catheterisation lab and an endoscopy suite), Laboratory, a dedicated physiotherapy unit including a functional in-patient and out-patient gymnasium, kitchen, Staff Canteen, Client Cafeteria, CSSD unit, Body Hold and Morgue and Chapel. Our vision is to continually improve our services and facilities by investing in the latest technology, employing the highest level of medical specialists and maintaining a dynamic and motivated workforce, which has become the flagship of our group. Planet Physio is a collaborative project between Planet Health International and Saint James Hospital. Planet Physio offers comprehensive physio therapeutic and rehabilitation services, providing a holistic “one stop shop” approach. The multidisciplinary team provides unique individual assessment and patient treatment plans depending on the patients’ specific presenting complaint. Other services include: Management and treatment of all orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, sports and neurological ailments and injuries in adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. As part of our multidisciplinary approach, we offer a wide variety of sports medicine and related healthcare services to people of all ages, activity levels and backgrounds, including general physiotherapy, sports specific physiotherapy, sport specific exercise prescriptive programmes, podiatry services, massage therapies and access to Sports Physician and Orthopaedic Services.
There are currently 4 clinics in Malta under the name of ‘Planet Physio’ but Planet Physio is also found internationally, particularly in Libya under the name of Janzour, (a stand alone outpatient centre), Ben Ashour (inpatient and outpatient services within the Saint James Hospital) and Hay Damask in Tripoli (outpatient and inpatient physiotherapy services within the Saint James Hospital). In September 2018, Saint James Hospital Group opened its first dedicated Rehabilitation Clinic in Belgrade, Serbia.
Role in the project
- STJH will be mainly responsible of assessing, treating, monitoring and reporting the patients’ progress when using the devices and VRHAB-IT platform
- STJH will also contribute in specifying the special needs and requirements of the patients in order to use the VRHAB-IT platform.
- Professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and gym attendants will be involved in the co-design activities of the game and will constantly monitor the metrics, which will be employed to assess improvements in the patients’ rehabilitation progress.
- STJH will also provide access to its patients and its functional gym in order to test VRHAB-IT in a real rehab environment.

Maria Bugeja
Ms Maria Bugeja has been the director and CEO of Saint James Capua Hospital for the last 16 years. Previously senior administrator in the family business also operating within the private medical sector. Managing Director of Malta’s largest aesthetic hub comprising over 100 wellness services under one roof. Maria was also successful in organising Malta’s first female only event which attracted over 10,000 females within a span of two and a half days.

Milos Stanisavljevic
Mr Milos Stanisavljevic (male) graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy from the Medical University of Belgrade, Serbia. He headed the setup of 7 specialised physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinics in Malta & overseas. He is an active member of the Malta Olympic Committee Medical Commission since 2003. Milos also has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry in Serbia, Malta & North Africa and is currently responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of Planet Health International within the Saint James Hospital. He conducted presentations as one of the speakers and participated in sports medicine conferences such as The 10th Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science which was held in 2005 in Serbia, The Physical Medicine and Rehab seminar, which took place in 2017 in Dubai, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Conference in Abu-Dhabi which were held in 2012, 2013 and 2014 as a part of ADMC congresses.
